Filler Words
Choose which hesitation sounds VoiceInk removes from dictation.
What Filler Word Removal Does
VoiceInk can remove common hesitation sounds such as um, uh, and hmm from your dictation. This cleanup happens automatically when filler-word removal is configured.
The setting lives under AI Models, not in the Dictionary window.
Change the List
- Open AI Models.
- Click the gear button.
- Select Transcription.
- Find Remove Filler Words.
- Add a word with the plus button, or remove a chip you no longer want cleaned.
VoiceInk starts with common hesitation sounds including uh, um, uhm, hmm, and mmm.
Choose Words Carefully
Only add a word when you are comfortable removing it whenever it appears on its own. Conversational words such as like, right, and okay often carry real meaning, so adding them can remove text you intended to keep.
Filler-word matching is case-insensitive and does not remove the same letters from inside a longer word.
